The Team

Each year we put together a team to represent us on regional (QEW Slam) and national (Canadian Festival of Spoken Word) stages.  Along with competing for a monthly cash prize, participants are earning points towards qualifying to compete for the team.

Slammers earn points by placing 1st (5 points), 2nd (3 points) , and 3rd (1 point) in a monthly slam.  At the end of the year the points are used to handicap the competitors on their total score during finals:

  • 10 pts or more = 0 pt deduct
  • 6-10 pts = 0.5 pt deduct
  • 4-5 pts = 1.0 pt deduct
  • 2-3 pts = 1.5 pt deduct
  • 1 pt = 2.0 pt deduct

On June 17th, 2010 we formed the first Burlington Slam Project Slam Team.

On Thursday May 19th, 2011 our 2011/2012 team was decided.

How Do I Make The Team?

In order to qualify for the team you must accumulate points by competing in the regular season.  At the end of the season the poets with the highest total points (& who are prepared to adhere to the team contract) qualify to compete in the finals.  From finals, the top 4 poets will form the team proper with the 5th placed poet acting as the alternate.

Each month the 3 poets with the highest cumulative scores earn points:
1st place – 5 points
2nd place – 3 points
3rd place – 1 point

At the end of the season, the poets with the 12 highest scores qualify for finals.
